+ Why Buy SAMM mats?

SAMM mats are an investment in safety, spend your hard-earned dollars wisely. Quality doesn't cost, it pays.

+ What are SAMM mats made of?

SAMM mats are made of high-tech fabric originally designed for military use.

The surface is rubberized with a non-skid, diamond-deck pattern for safer footing.

The magnets are high strength, flexible, and made for exterior use.

+ What is the maximum pitch?

The recommended maximum pitch is 6/12.
Always use additional safety equipment where needed.

+ How big are the mats?

Pole Barn Style (PBS) mats are tri-fold, 21" x 25 5/8"
We recommend this style for Imperial Rib style roofing - 9" between main ribs - exposed fastener

Standing Seam (STSM) mats are single-fold, 21" x 28"
We recommend this style for Standing or Hidden Seam roofing

Pole Barn-12 mats are tri-fold, 23" x 34 1/4"
We recommend this style for Pole barn steel 12" on center main ribs - exposed fastener

PRO mats are tri-fold, 21" x 25 5/8"
We recommend this style for Pole Barn steel, Standing or Hidden seam steel, Corrugated and Architectural steel roofing

+ How much do the SAMM mats weigh?

PBS (pole barn style) mats weigh 2 1/2 # each and will hold about 300#
STSM (standing seam) mats weigh 3 1/2# each and will hold about 300#
PB-12 (pole barn style 12" on center) mats weigh 3 3/4# each and will hold about 300#
PRO mats weigh 4# each and will hold about 350#

+ How do I decide between pole barn and standing seam mats?

The easiest way to determine your roof style is to decide whether or not you can see the fasteners.

If you can see the screws on the metal sheeting, that is pole barn style (PBS).
If the screws don't show, and the metal has hidden seams, you have standing seam style (STSM).

If you are still unsure which style is right for you, please give us a call and we will be happy to assist you.

+ Will one style mat work on all styles roofing?

Except for the PRO mat design, which will adhere to PBS (pole barn style), STSM (standing seam) style, Corrugated and Architectural style steel roofs, the answer is:

No. The magnetic configuration is different for each style so the mat can make full contact with the surface. The PBS (pole barn style) has 9 magnetic strips spaced so the fabric lays over the ribs allowing the magnets to adhere to the flat surface. The STSM (standing seam) style has 2, 10" magnets on the sides. The fabric in the center lays over the standing rib allowing the magnets to adhere to the flat surface.

+ How many sets do I need?

SAMM mats come in sets of 2. Placement will be about every 2', stepping distance apart.

For example, if you have a run of 20', 4 sets minimum is suggested. That will allow for easier access to the destination - peak, chimney, etc.- and help keep tools within reach.

We find most homeowners purchase between 2 and 3 sets.
Contractors usually purchase 4-8 sets.

+ Do they work if metal is wet?

Yes, but not on snow, ice, sleet, or debris.

+ What is the temperature rating?

Not recommended for working in temperatures above 90ºF
If the surface is above 160ºF don't use. The magnetic grip will be compromised.
